Koole Engineering continually strives for improvement, and does not settle for average results. We keep questioning our own methods, to see how we can do better, quicker, or more efficient.
To find out to what extent our Orca tank technology could be upscaled to ocean-going proportions and meet the qualifications for carrying full-scale, heavy chemicals, and to discover what obstacles typically emerge in projects of these dimensions, we challenged ourselves to design a concept ship from scratch that would fit through the Panama locks. Together with an assigning shipowner, Koole Engineering negotiated an Approval in Principle with Bureau Veritas, a Dutch classification society.
The result was a complete design and development plan for a fully seaworthy 33,000 DWT chemical tanker featuring our patented cylindrical tanks, dubbed the Orca Panamax Tanker.
